Carey was 5'10 in height before she stepped up to the high-end model. Her popularity among American designer Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father, a distinguished scientist who received the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists' 1979 Scientist of Year award, is a highly respected scientist. Carey went to all over the world in honor of her father's efforts. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she started to do modeling as a side. It caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York. She moved to France in 1980. She stayed briefly in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back home to New York to continue with her education at college and build a modeling career. Soon, she was appearing on the covers of Vogue, Glamour, etc. As she modeled, she continued to study at a full-time level for a literary major in New York University. Then she became interested in acting, and began taking classes at the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. In 1986, she made her debut as an actor with a small part in "Club Paradise" alongside Robin Williams. She enjoys rock climbing as well as skiing and windsurfing.
